The Shein Bag Collection

This viral project explores the crossing of sustainability, commentary, and couture by transforming over 100 Shein shipping bags into fully wearable garments. What began as a spontaneous design challenge quickly evolved into a full concept collection, gaining widespread attention across TikTok, BuzzFeed, and the Wall Street Journal.

The Four Step Process

Each piece was draped, fused, stitched, and dyed by hand. The bags are normally discarded, but are now preserved in their raw state to highlight branding excess and volume waste. The final looks blend a triangular silhouette with streetwear edge and athletic twist.

Retrieving the Bags

All of the bags were collected over time from friends, family, and community drop-offs. What began as a few saved mailers quickly turned into a growing pile as more people contributed their discarded Shein packaging. No bags were purchased.

Preparation

Exploring innovative ways to transform plastic into functional fabrication.

Construction and Functionality

Experimenting with stitch length to avoid tearing the plastic.

Final Looks

From waste to wear — the full drop made from Shein bags stitched and styled with edge.
